SolarEMR

Infrastructure with a touch of SOLTECH

Demonstrating automated production and integration of customized PV modules in long-stretched infrastructure

SolarEMR is a forward-looking project that envisions a future where customized solar integration is not only technically feasible but also economically viable. By addressing challenges related to automated production, integration, fast deployment, and economic models, the project strives to accelerate the energy transition in the built environment and infrastructure, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Solar Energy Made Regional

The main goal of the SolarEMR project is accelerating the energy transition in the built environment and near long stretched infrastructure. The project partners will do that by and power electronics (PE) and by demonstrating fast deployment. The project strategically aligns with regional demands, adheres to European legislation, and addresses public acceptance of integrated building components and large-scale infrastructure applications.

SolarEMR

SolarEMR is a follow-up project on Rolling Solar (Interreg EMR) in which we developed and evaluated integration of large stretches (>1m) of silicon and thin film PV solar modules in infrastructural elements. SolarEMR extends to the Rolling Solar project by demonstrating automated mass production of bespoke silicon and thin film IPV and optimized electrical grid connection for local energy use. Additionally we support SMEs directly by investigating economic models and legislative aspects while identifying opportunities and hurdles.

In this project SolarEMR, the emphasis lies on the design process, taking into account all production steps up to the final integration in infrastructure and building elements and also taking into account on site placement in a realistic, full scale demonstrator.

Soltech’s main objectives in this project

Automated Production and Integration

  • Scale up successful technologies from previous Interreg projects, notably Rolling Solar.
  • Demonstrate the cost-effective automated production of customized PV modules
  • Showcase seamless integration of these components into infrastructure elements (noise barriers)

Fast Deployment

  • Highlight the feasibility of rapid deployment strategies for solar panels in real-world, full-scale scenarios.
  • Emphasize on-site placement considerations, taking into account realistic conditions in a comprehensive demonstrator.
